Santa Clara, CA, April 17 , 2007 – Silver Peak Systems (www.silver-peak.com), a leading provider of scalable Wide Area Network (WAN) acceleration solutions, today announced that TriQuint Semiconductor, developer of high-performance modules and components, has deployed Silver Peak’s NX Series appliances to improve data protection and increase employee productivity through better application performance across the WAN. With Silver Peak, TriQuint can more reliably backup data from around the world to the company’s headquarters in Oregon, while simultaneously ensuring that all employees receive LAN-like access to centrally located SQL databases and Microsoft file servers.
TriQuint employs more than 1,800 people, with offices in North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia. High latency on the company’s international MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) WAN made it difficult for employees to access critical information remotely, such as forecasting spreadsheets and inventory databases (using SQL) and to effectively use the company’s Cisco Voice over IP (VoIP) services. In addition, the company could not efficiently handle other business critical processes across the WAN, including the nightly back-up of remote locations using NetApp software.
“We didn’t have bandwidth starvation issues, so throwing more bandwidth at the problem wouldn’t help,” said Pak Chan, IT manager for TriQuint. “Latency was our real problem and the only way to address that is to use WAN optimization.”
After evaluating WAN acceleration technology from several vendors, Chan and his team selected Silver Peak’s NX Series appliances.
“We chose Silver Peak for its performance as well as its ability to support all of our applications,” added Chan. “Looking down the road, we didn’t want to limit our solution to TCP or have to buy a different product to handle UDP acceleration or our VoIP traffic. Silver Peak also kept latency to a minimum, outperforming other vendors when handling real-time SQL transactions.”
Keeping its state-of-the art IT system running optimally to maintain its competitive advantage in the research and development of new manufacturing processes and products is a top priority for TriQuint. With Silver Peak, TriQuint is experiencing five to six times average improvement in data backup and recovery, 14 times improvement in file transfers and 15 times improvements in real-time SQL transactions across the WAN. In addition, the company has seen a 45 percent improvement in WAN utilization. Given the boost in employee productivity and increase in WAN efficiency, the company estimates a 12-month return on its Silver Peak investment and continued world-class customer support.
